I don’t have pages of wisdom to share with you today, but I have a quote:
"Rest is not idle, and not wasteful, but the preparation for a new day of work."
– William James
As I reflected upon Quarter 1 this weekend in preparation for Quarter 2, I was reminded that rest is non-negotiable. I didn’t fully embrace that reality until I landed in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, a few weeks ago for a much-needed vacation.
It was those sitting poolside with a book, making my way through the buffet line, or chatting briefly with a stranger that I could fully take my mind off of work. And that nourished my soul in a way that I haven’t been able to contemplate in a long while.
However…
Rest doesn’t need to be a vacation - as that might not be a restful thing for you. What I will challenge you to ask yourself is:
What’s one thing you can do for yourself today to find rest?
Is it putting your phone on “Do Not Disturb,” preparing an old family recipe, hiking with your dog, heading to the library to enjoy a good book, or even booking a future solo vacation? Whatever rest looks like for you today, I challenge you to make the time to find that rest. And when you do, message me so I can hold you accountable.
That’s all I have for you for now. Next week, we’ll be back to our regular scheduled programming.
